SAMRO’s primary role is to administer Performing Rights on behalf of members. They do so by licensing music users (such as television and radio broadcasters, live music venues, retailers, restaurants, promoters and shopping centres), through the collection of licence fees which are then distributed as royalties to the creators.
Annually at the SAMA’s the music industry gives awards to artists in various categories.
To quote their FB page: “The Vrede Foundation was founded in Johannesburg, South Africa in October 2008 by the legendary late Herman Pretorius who has since passed on. The foundation aims to create awareness and raise funds for young people with cancer and assist those who cannot afford treatment. CANCER DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A DEATH SENTENCE!!.
